ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT (USA)

American alternative rap in its best delivery which does not need any introduction to true fans of the genre. Arrested Development is one of the most important groups in a history of music. While performing they present an outstanding mixture of cultural–southern–hiphop–folk–ethnic–funk that is also known as Life music.

They have been performing since 1988, including a 4 year break; the energy they possess and share on stage could be easily distributed among few other groups. They received two Grammy awards and fans’ recognition around the world. They also recorded MTV Unplugged album.
 
Those Americans are proud to present their culture via politically and socially encouraging lyrics. The last CD entitled Strong was released in 2010 and holds The World is Changing which ran to the tops of hit lists, including Japan. They visited Poland twice, the latter time being in Wroclaw.

BABYLON CIRCUS (FRANCE)

The group has been playing since 1995. Their sound is a blend of eater Europe folk, French neorealist songs, urban reggae, fiery ska, jazz, punk and dub. It is hard to take the eyes of the stage when those winning Frenchmen perform; they are famous for their distinctive style of comedy theatre. Moreover, group’s splendid sound is supported with special stage decorations.

The lyrics are of strong political content which conveys the message of an individual being able to change bits of the surrounding reality into better ones.

Apart from France they also performed In Ireland, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Syria and Lebanon. They played in Poland few times, the last one being in 2010. They released five albums.

HADAG NAHASH (ISRAEL)

6-people group created in 1996. It is supreme in combining western pop music with the elements of eastern music. The six albums released by Hadag Nahash contain the beats of hip hop, rock, reggae and funk. All of these releases received the status of golden record. The members of this extraordinary group are actively fighting for the human rights. They also started an organization called Festival Be’Shekel which helps to promote young poor artists.

The group have already shared the stage with Black Eyed Peas and Cypress Hill; they performed in America and Europe and are the stars in their own country. Their compositions can be heard on radio stations, TV has repeatedly executed programmes about the musicians.

A wide audience could hear their composition being the part of a soundtrack for a comedy You don’t mess with the Zohan, starring Adam Sandler. Participation in Inne Brzmienia Festival concert is going to be their second performance in Poland.

SHTETL SUPERSTARS (UK)

Shtetl Superstar is a real cultural mixture; considering musicians descent there are: Great Britain, Ukraine, Germany, Italy and Israel. That mix guarantees that no one will pass that joyful group of people indifferently. The musicians provide us with cheerful blend of ska and hip hop conveying lyrics referring to European obsession on immigration. Usually these are irreverent stories.

Dance, laughter, jokes, lively rhythm and a great dose of stage ease make Shtetl Superstar a concert rocket. It is hard to stand still while their performance.

The group released their debut album entitled A Day In The Life. Last year they participated in the Sziget Festival which is one of Europe’s greatest festivals occurring in Budapest since 1993. Inne Brzmienia Festival concert is going to be their first performance in Poland.

TRILOK GURTU QUARTET (INDIE)

He is a real virtuoso who is considered to be one of the best drummers in the world. He comes from musical family. His mother Shobha Gurtu is a famous Indian singer. Music critics define Trilok as one of the most influential modern jazzman. Trilok Gurtu plays a mixture of fusion jazz, Indian traditions and African music. He does not consider himself a jazz drummer as he created his own style and dislikes being classified.

Trilok Gurtu loves to experiment, e.g. he dips vibrating gong into water. He uses drum instruments while sitting on the floor which allows him to act in agreement with Hindi tradition.

He released several dozen of albums. He cooperated, among others, with Jan Garbarek, Robert Miles, Don Cherry, John McLaughline.  He performed in Poland last year; that is to be his first performance in Lublin.

FISZ EMADE (POLAND)

These artists do not require any extra introduction. Fisz and Emade are Bartek and Piotr Waglewski who are brothers in their private life and in professional one a producer vs vocalist and rapper. It is difficult not to mention their musical roots, i.e. the father of that duet is Wojciech Waglewski, the leader of Voo Voo.

Staring 2001, Fisz and Emade released 9 albums, all of these being in the hip hop or around hip hop and electronic music stylistics. They were first to implement that quality of soft sounds and lyrics referring to Native Tongues into Polish hip hop. Since then the brothers have been and constantly are experimenting, however they make an effort to combine all of the trials with high quality and commitment.

The last album, entitled Zwierzę bez nogi, was released in November 2011 and was awarded a nomination for Album of the year hip-hop/reggae/R&B and Best graphics for the album. This year’s Inne Brzmienia Festival is going to be the first life concert  to present the album.

POLUZJANCI (POLAND)

It has been 17 years since a group of students from Cracow established Poluzjanci (former Polucjanci), a band touching on a wide range of music: pop, funk, jazz-rock. The first time they performed was in 1997 while Polish Song Festival in Opole.

One of the band’s distinctive features is a splendid voice of Kuba Badach. That talented artist cooperated with Kayah, Robert Janson, Ania Szarmach, Dorota Miśkiewicz or the band Carrantuohill. Moreover,  Poluzjanci performed abroad, e.g. in New York in 2002.

The group’s first album entitled Tak po prostu has gained the status of a collector. In 2007 fans organized an action which concluded in further edition of the album. Nevertheless that album reaches high price in a second-hand sale. The band released three albums, the last one in November 2011.

JORGOS SKOLIAS & DJ KRIME (POLAND)

Jorgos defines himself as an indocile vocalist. So what are we to hear? Folk embedded in Balkan and African climate and the mixture of rock, blues and, evidently, jazz. That is to be a musical journey covering Greece, India and Africa. Jorgos Skolias cooperated with Radosław Nowakowski, Tomasz Stańko, Zbigniew Namysłowki, Nikos Touliatos and bands Tie Break, Pick Up and Free Cooperation. He also participated in recording theatre and film music.

Dj Krime has been present on the music stage since 1994. The master of scratch and beat juggling is the pioneer of turntable in Poland. He achieved various titles and distinctions, e.g. two time Vestax Extravaganza Master of Eastern Europe or ITF Master of Poland. He hangs about funk, jazz, hip hop, reggae. Among others, Krime supported Run DMC, Morcheeba or Killa Kela.

A joint performance of these two notabilities is a new project which may become one of the most important musical events of 2012.
